The Israel Electric Corporation (IEC) has sanctioned a pilot project for the deployment of iLamp Israel’s autonomous solar lighting system at one of its facilities. This initiative marks the first operational integration of this technology with the utility. The primary aim of the pilot is to evaluate the system’s performance in terms of lighting, reliability, and its ability to withstand the challenging coastal conditions at the site. The findings from this assessment will be crucial in determining the feasibility of using the technology on a broader scale.
The iLamp system is designed to integrate multiple functions into a single lighting pole. Each unit includes LED lighting, a 360-degree solar array, and battery storage, which collectively enable the system to generate and store electricity independently, eliminating the need for a conventional grid connection. Additionally, the platform offers edge-computing capabilities, which allow data generated by equipment on the pole to be processed locally, thereby reducing the reliance on a centralized system.
Post-installation, the system will undergo monitoring based on specific technical and operational criteria established for the project. The IEC will review the performance outcomes before making any decisions regarding further deployment or expansion of the technology. Anna Finkelstein from iLamp Israel highlighted the pilot’s significance in gathering valuable performance data under challenging real-world conditions. Meanwhile, Albert Taubi, the Director of iLamp Israel, expressed that the IEC’s approval is a significant milestone towards introducing autonomous solar infrastructure to major operators, with current efforts focused on installation completion and performance evaluation.
It is important to note that this pilot does not equate to an endorsement for widespread deployment. Any decision regarding future expansion will be contingent on a separate evaluation by the IEC, relying heavily on the results from this initial project. iLamp Israel Ltd. holds the exclusive rights to the iLamp platform in Israel, a technology originally developed by the UK-based Conflow Power Group Ltd.
