Israel has revoked the diplomatic credentials of Dutch officials in response to the Netherlands’ decision to restrict the import of goods from Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank. This move has heightened tensions between Israel and the Netherlands, adding pressure to Israel’s diplomatic relations with several European countries.
According to Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar, the Dutch Embassy was informed that its diplomats stationed in Ramallah have seven days to return their Israeli-issued diplomatic documents. These officials, Sa’ar noted, can continue their activities in the West Bank with authorization from the Palestinian Authority.
The diplomatic conflict follows the Netherlands’ implementation of restrictions on goods originating from Israeli settlements, a policy that took effect on September 22. Israel has consistently opposed international measures that target its settlements and has been critical of countries imposing such restrictions.
This latest development reflects broader geopolitical tensions concerning Israeli settlement policies and the ongoing situation in the Palestinian territories. Israel’s actions against the Dutch diplomats underscore the strain in its relations with some European nations over differing views on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
