In a forceful address to the United Nations General Assembly, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu dismissed allegations that Israel has committed genocide in Gaza, labeling them as unfounded. Netanyahu’s speech, which came amid widespread international criticism of Israel’s military actions, also defended the country’s security measures, including its decision to attack Iran.

Netanyahu highlighted the gravity of the October 7, 2023, Hamas attack, which resulted in the deaths of about 1,200 individuals, as justification for Israel’s military operations. He emphasized that these actions are essential for safeguarding Israel’s security, while claiming that several countries discreetly support Israel’s stance against Iran. During his address, Netanyahu also expressed gratitude to US President Donald Trump for backing actions against Iran.

The speech was met with significant opposition, as numerous delegates left the General Assembly hall in protest before and during his address. Netanyahu criticized those who walked out, accusing them of overlooking Israel’s right to self-defense. He further rejected accusations of war crimes and genocide linked to Israel’s military conduct in Gaza and reiterated his opposition to establishing a Palestinian state under his leadership.

Netanyahu also addressed the ongoing violence in the West Bank, condemning acts of aggression by Israeli settlers against Palestinians. While maintaining a firm stance on Israel’s territorial policies, he questioned the Palestinian Authority’s capability as a peace partner.

The Israeli Prime Minister’s speech underscored the deepening divisions over the future of the Palestinian territories and Israel’s approach to security and sovereignty. As international scrutiny continues, Netanyahu remains steadfast in his defense of Israel’s actions and policies.
