Tensions between Iran and the United States have escalated following a stern warning from Tehran after President Donald Trump declared the cessation of the interim agreement intended to resolve conflict between the two nations. In response to Trump’s announcement, Ali Akbar Velayati, a senior adviser to Iran’s supreme leader, accused the United States of rekindling hostilities in the Gulf region. Velayati emphasized that Iran is ready to respond to any further military actions, asserting that the region has been pushed back toward conflict.
Velayati underscored Iran’s readiness by stating that the nation has its “finger on the trigger” and will not remain passive in the face of threats and provocations. The heightened rhetoric follows Trump’s comments at the NATO summit, where he declared the ceasefire agreement void after Iran launched new attacks on U.S. military bases in Bahrain and Kuwait. These actions were in retaliation for U.S. strikes on Iranian targets, which were a response to assaults on commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz.
President Trump also indicated that further military actions against Iran could be on the horizon, warning that American forces might conduct additional strikes should Tehran persist in its activities. He specifically noted that strategic sites, such as Kharg Island, could be considered potential future targets.
