In a recent diplomatic engagement, Iran has characterized its ties with India as both “long-standing” and “historic,” following a meeting between Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian. The meeting took place on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit, where the two leaders explored avenues to further cement their bilateral relationship.
Esmail Baghaei, the spokesperson for Iran’s Foreign Ministry, emphasized the significance Tehran places on its connections with New Delhi, underscoring the collaboration in trade and economic sectors as pivotal. Among the key topics discussed was the development of the Chabahar Port, a strategic project that remains a focal point of cooperation between the two nations.
